Love to attend Dark Lord Day. I reside in Atlanta, but Munster is my hometown. I’m a homebrewer and work in the industry. I share the passion like others for fine crafted beer. I’d love to recieve a golden ticket.

    @ Bev:

Hampton Inn, on Calumet Avenue in Munster. Very close to the brewery–walking distance in fact, if you don’t have a lot to carry. Pretty cheap last year when we stayed. I’d book soon, as each year this seems to get bigger and bigger. Last year’s was the best yet though, in my opinion.

Can you post a link to the 2009 thread? I don’t see anything about it on here. Only a few posts from a 2009 thread but no mention of how to obtain the tickets. I’m assuming they’ll post when they’ll go on sale at like midnight, and it’s first come first serve.

WTF… So your fans/customers that can’t/won’t be logged on to twitter 24/7 for the next two months are going to get screwed on this, or what?

  80. by admin

    On February 11, 2010 at 5:47 pm

The twitter announcement will coincide with an announcement on this site, beeradvocate.com and ratebeer.com at almost the same time. There will be plenty of ways for people to get the information.

  81. by cubby_swans

    On February 11, 2010 at 8:49 pm

So then it’s not going to be an “exclusively” twitter thing, as the original posting says.

I hate twitter – A total contradiction – twitter – dark lord? – these are polar opposites.

  83. by Travis

    On February 11, 2010 at 10:09 pm

Twitter is blocked at my job too but if you google 3 floyds dark lord day twitter just click cached and you should be able to view it.

  84. by cubby_swans

    On February 11, 2010 at 10:23 pm

caching a page doesn’t let you view any updates on it. It only lets you see whatever you saved.

  85. by Nick

    On February 12, 2010 at 12:23 am

Relax, guys. It’s an unbending law of the nature that there will not be enough Dark Lord made to appease every single human who wants it–it’s inherent in a product of this caliber. Instead of perceiving every slight obstacle in the way of hearing about the tickets as something personal, see it as a challenge to “weed out” those who don’t care about the beer as much as the devoted fans who do. And of course no system they employ will be perfect, again because there is not enough DL to reach everyone. They’re doing the best they can, short of always making twice as much DL as the previous year. And I hope nobody expects that, because another law of nature states that if you start mass producing a special hand-crafted product, it will inevitably lose the quality that makes it special in the first place. Heck, Miller Lite once started out as a prized imperial stout back in the 1800’s!!! What the brewery has done, however, is make the festival itself bigger and better every year, which is something everyone can enjoy. I mean, shoulder your way up to a picnic table and enjoy some of the best beers in the world for free all in one place, and stop whining.

  86. by Scott

    On February 12, 2010 at 8:57 am

Well put Nick. I’ll just be patient and wait to see exactly how it will go with the Golden Tickets this year & hopefully be able to get mine once available.

Not sure if anyone saw this or not, but if you go to the FAQs the site tells you that Golden Tickets are released on March 17. So none of you need to stay on twitter 24/7 for the next month- just the 24 hours on that Wednesday.
Having that said, if I end up not being able to get tickets, I think someone should send me one of theirs for this little nugget of information.

    On March 15, 2010 at 8:21 pm

I appreciate the efforts that 3F is taking to ascertain that as many fans as possible get a taste of Dark Lord. However, I believe this year is going further in the wrong direction. In the past I got Dark Lord because I got to DDay early in the morning (sharing beer at 7 am was very cool). The most dedicated fans were rewarded with the precious bounty The crybabies who got there late didn’t deserve the limited release beer and went home empty handed. Then came Golden Tickets. It was more or less a game of cat and mouse to see who got tickets. It was irritating but tolerable because the money went to a good cause. Now we have to do the Twitter thing. More social networking and peek a boo simpleton games. Enough is enough. Let’s get back to the basics – the survival of the fittest and most dedicated. 3F should have considered that many of us fans would have to purchase tickets in the early morning from work. The problem is that social netwoking sites are automatically blocked by most employers for understandable reasons. Those of us who actually work for a living are to be penalized. I have been a huge fan of 3F for years and regularly drink 3F. I have carried their beers to well over ten countries and all over the USA to share the wonderful flavors with other beer fans. However, my commitment to 3F is diminishing with the advent of the BS affiliated with Dark Lord Day 2010. Say AMF to a long time follower fed up with these ridiculous social sites required for everyday life. Some of us beer fans already have lives. Any other beer fans who feel the same please speak up or forever lose your Dark Lord.

Why don’t they (you) just make Dark Lord a year-round release? It seems like, and I’ve heard from brewers who know people who work at Three Floyds, that DLD is the biggest pain in the ass for the brewery. I’m seriously just wondering here, why the whole “Dark Lord Day” thing? Why not Dark Lord ETERNITY!?!?!

I’m having some trouble accessing this links on this page such as facts, golden tickets, ect. from my computer. When I scroll the cursor over them it doesn’t allow me to click on them, however when I’m viewing it from my phone it will let me hit the links. Is anyone else having this problem? My concern is that if the tickets are sold through this site, and if they go on sale while I’m at work and can’t use my phone, I’ll have to have the ol’ ball and chain order them for me, but she might not be able to if there’s no access to the link.
By the way I like the way 3 Floyds is doing this, it helps keep those who would just bulk buy the golden tickets and throw them on ebay to try and make a profit away. It ensures that loyal followers will have a better chance of buying the tickets directly from 3 Floyds, instead of through some scumbag who knocks the price up $100 a ticket when he puts them on ebay or craigslist.

I was having the same problems with the links but that was using crappy internet explorer at work. When I pulled the page up at home on mozilla all of the links work fine. I would suspect that maybe my version (and yours) are older versions of IE and that maybe an update would help. In any case, mozilla, safari and google chrome should all work just fine.

I’m just trying to plan my day tomorrow…If I need to be near a computer to get tickets a x AM, I need to plan that. If they’re not going on sale tomorrow, that’s fine. But if I get an email at 8 am tomorrow that they’re on sale at 9 am, I’m gonna be frustrated. That’s all I’m saying.

I hear Dark Lord this year is $65 per bottle, and the bottles will now only be 11.6 ounces. Also, instead of barbecue, there will only be deer jerky for sale, so be sure to bring something to eat if you are allergic. WOW – peoples is crazy. So much speculation on this site. My take on this is that the 3 Floyds jokers do as best a job that they can, and that they truly try to make DLD better every year. These dudes are masters at brewing, and they had to learn marketing, accounting, festival-planning, etc. along the way, and I think they’re doing a pretty good job. Is it going to be perfect? NO. Are they trying their best to balance fairness, line-cutting, charity, ticket scalpers, good times, etc.? YES. Cheers!

Rapid-fire late night zombie forum, let’s go! Anyone here bringing an “Abyss” imperial stout for sharing or trading purposes? I usually bring some pretty good beers and I’m dying to try that one, as I’m sure many others are. I guess I better just get there very early. I’ll be bringing some Batch 9000, Hopslam, Expedition Stout, Kentucky Breakfast Stout, Behemoth ‘09, and probably an ‘08 or ‘09 Dark Lord. If you have an extra Abyss you’re willing to trade or at least share, just look for me–I will try to jump up and down in place the entire time so I will be easily recognized.

Don’t risk DLD on something as mundane as pregnancy. Also, legend has it that if your child is conceived while drinking DL he will be born with x-ray vision and will play in the NFL by the his 14 birthday. Alternatively, he might come out riding a flaming chariot pulled by Hitlers favorite horses and grow up to take over the world. Either way you, the father, comes out pretty well. It’s a total win-win.

    On March 17, 2010 at 8:44 am

For anyone freaking out about the prospect of not getting a coveted ticket…my friends and I had tickets last year, got our bottles around noon, and hung around the brewery until mid afternoon when the line was done and 90% of the people had left and it started raining. At that point, they opened the doors to anyone with cash in hand to buy bottles. There were literally pallets upon pallets of Dark Lord cases still sitting there. We hit the ATM and loaded up. So if it’s anything like last year, they make plenty, and odds are you’re going to get bottles either way.

Aren’t you all speculating that this is even going to happen today. 3Floyds didn’t say they were going to release the tickets on St. Paddy’s day, they just said they’ll announce it on Twitter. Just because they did it this day last year doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll do the same this year.

Right when I get home from work I have to take off again and drive for 2hrs and won’t get home till like 10:00…so does that mean I get screwed now?? Can’t they simply just give us a time instead of having us wait with unknowing anticipation like a kid on Christmas eve?

  175. by Renae

    On March 17, 2010 at 10:50 am

I hope the website infrastructure can handle a crap ton of people all trying to buy tickets at once. I believe one of the reasons they did the email last year, was so that people wouldn’t all hoard onto the site at once crashing it? With twitter, everyone that has an internet capable phone will be on the site immediately – this will be interesting.

You better believe if the announcement comes on my commute home, I’ll be pulling into a parking lot to buy the tickets from my Droid. I’m glad I upgraded my phone this year.

If they are going to go off of a 5pm COB time, people on the west coast are going to be upset again.

Is there really any good way to do this? Suggestion for 3Fs, months before DLD next year, get a committee of fans together to help you from all different time zones. Maybe if we put enough heads together from different locations, a reasonable solution can be found – where more people will be happy with the outcome. Staggering ticket sales throughout the days – for instance 3am-5am, 9am-11am, 1pm-3pm, 5pm-7pm and only sell a certain allotment each segment of the day. People could try at times that they would be available, and everyone would get a better chance. This way shift workers and normal 8-5ers would all have an equal chance of getting a ticket. Just a humble suggestion.

Thats par for the course though.
All websites pretty much experience this for huge events…nothing new.
Just keep trying and hope you’re lucky. Don’t give up until the page says SOLD OUT.
If you don’t get a ticket, its faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaar from the end of the world as the event is still a kick ass time and theres always next year.
There is no reason to be getting on FFF for all their efforts.
You can just move on if you’re not down with their “not normal” efforts.

Got mine thank god, just checked back and they’re sold out. Now we’ll have to wait and see how many bottles we’ll be able to buy with each ticket. Anyone know how many it was last year?

A marketing campaign gone awry. I guess success breeds arrogance. From now on it’s under the Crown with a Poohbah for me!

Last year we got six bottles per ticket, the year before we got four bottles per ticket. Everything hinges on how much stout is made for this year.

The online sale last night was a clusterf*ck. Three Floyds and the folks at Shopify really dropped the ball. First there was the crash, then after the site was back up, it wouldn’t process my order because it said my street address did not match my postal code. This is B.S.! I checked and double-checked my address half a dozen times. The address, zip, state – everything – was entered correctly, and I kept getting the same error. I got screwed out of getting my tickets, and I am sure mine isn’t the only story like this you’ll hear in the coming month. I’m pissed!

Correction: Last year we got 4 bottles per ticket and bottles were $15 each. The year before I wasn’t there so I don’t know how many bottles each person was allowed but they did not have tickets that year.

How much did the bottles cost at the event if you have a golden ticket?

@Nick I should have some Abyss to share. I’ll be the guy in the red Linfield t-shirt.

Did anyone order early 7-730pm and go through all the address and credit card info and hit “Complete Order” and then got permanently stuck with the cursor spinning in a circle and it saying “completing order”? I was stuck at this for 2 hours and then when I refreshed the page it said tickets were sold out. I feel extremely frustrated that shopify had so much trouble with the bandwidth and someone who put his order in at 7:15 was not able to get tickets.

  224. by Renae

    On March 19, 2010 at 3:42 pm

Sack – it was 4 bottles per ticket last year. And there weren’t golden ticket the year before, but it was 6 per person I believe.

They will most likely release the numbers very very close to the day of the event. Along with price.

I emailed FFF and inquired on when I might be expecting my tickets. They said that all tickets are shipping at once when the processing of all orders is complete. They will also tweet that they have been shipped on the day it happens.

Too bad I already deleted my twitter account. And the Twidroid app on my phone. Here’s a hint, twitter SUCKS! Thanks for “retweeting” that information Seth (onto their own website which they should use) for those of us who are re-boycotting twitter now that we ordered our tickets.

So, has anyone heard what the bottle limit will be yet? I know in the FAQ’s it says it will be announced as soon as they determine this year’s yield, but with it now less than a week away, I’d like to know how much cash I need to bring. not a huge deal, just looking to prepare…Can’t wait for Saturday!!!

Unless you have rain gear, you’re getting wet. But i did read the online forecast and it shouldn’t rain till later in the day. Keep your fingers crossed!

Just arrived back in Nebraska after our first Dark Lord Day. Wow, what a turnout!! It was great meeting people and the cool group from Ohio. Wish we could have stayed the whole day but got to enjoy the festivities for a few hours. See everyone next year.
